Introductions ( 7 September 2004)
Post a brief introduction of yourself, focused on your RIT and web development background. What program and year are you in? When did you take 320, and with whom? What outside-of-class web development experience do you have? Why are you taking this course? What are you hoping to learn?
In the "URL" box, put a link to your IMM web page, or a personal web page that you've created. (Preferably with a photo of you!)
There are no recorded trackback links from other weblogs.
Hi,
I'm Curtis Bolser, but everyone that knows me calls me Kirby. I'm a 5th year Computer Science major, with a minor in Music and my non-cs concentration in web design and digital media. I took 320 in Spring of the '01-'02 academic year with Wheeland. I have little out-of-class experience with web design aside from a few brushes with personal pages that were all abandoned, but I'm fairly capable. I'm taking this course because I want to improve my skills in web development and content presentation.
Hey my name is Dan Wasyluk im a second year new media IT major. I like playing drums (kit) and driving road courses at scca meets. I have been 'working' as a web developer for about 3 years, and hope to expand my development knowledge through this class. I use PHP and mySQL as my primary languages (and of course HTML) with flash to jazz things up a bit.

My name is David Giudice. I'm a fifth year IT major. I took 320 three years ago. Honostly, I don't remember all that much from it, but I'm sure it will come back to me once we start creating webpages. I'm taking this class because I would like to try and find out if web development is something I would like to do after I graduate at the end of the winter quarter.

My web design/programming skills are average with only a couple of classes taken so far, but at the end of this class I hope they are much better. I have a website but I am currently trying to upgrade it.

My name is Matthew Hersh. I am a fifth year IT student. I do consultant work for Bristol-Myers Squibb doing website applications. I use ASP.NET for all of my apps integrated with MS SQL SERVER. I'm from Pennington, NJ. And can't wait to clean up my html code!

My name is Bryan O'Leary. I am a fifth year IT major. this is my final year. i dont remember much of 320 considering i took it about 3 years ago. i did a co-op at Syracuse.com for 1 year so web design is not new to me. hopefully this class will squash my shortcoming in making pages... i never know where to start from.
I'm Ted Pearson, a 3rd year Information Technology major. I took 320 in Fall of 2002, with Vullo. I'm thinking about taking the web/database concentration in IT. I have experience with web design keeping my blog (tedpearson.com) maintained and designed, and I've run it on both the MovableType and WordPress blogging systems.
I'm a Mac user. I also like using linux on my old Macs. I am comfortable with unix command line, configuring the apache webserver, and fun stuff like that on both mac and linux.
I'm taking this course because it's the introductory class into the web/database concentration, and I'm sure I can always learn some more. CSS especially, I always have to look up how to do what I want to do with CSS.
Posted by: Ted on September 7, 2004 02:56 PM | Permalink to CommentMy name is Scott Skalny and I'm a third year IT major concentrating in something eventually I guess. Right now I'm just taking this course as an elective to increase my general web design knowledge - I'm not sure if i have any future plans in web design though. Most of my web design/multimedia background comes from IMM (Fall 2002 with Henderson) and IDM, with a little bit of work in Dreamweaver/ColdFusion on coop. Don't mind my picture from my IMM website - freshman year was a little rough to say the least ;) .

I have always worked on designing webpages, and I look forward to learning even more from this course. I practice drums and draw webcomics (http://psychotickiss.keenspace.com) in my free time, hence the need to learn some good design skills. I hope to have a good foundation of knowledge of code needed to design a good, effective website.

I took 320 in fall of '02-'03 and as of such I am rusty on the CSS side of html. I've made several attempts at a personal website and am working on putting up something to link all my work up. I want to learn how to make a professional-looking website and to finally get away from those accursed tables that I keep struggling with.

Posted by: Hoang Tran on September 7, 2004 02:57 PM | Permalink to CommentMy name is Brandon Lewis, I am a second year New Media/IT major. Web Design is what I am gearing my future toward, I having a strong interest in it. I took 320 back in the winter quarter of the '03-'04 academic year with Elisa Weeden. I have much outside experience working with Web Design outside of class, quickly finishing the task isnt one of my strong points, but I like to make sure the job is done to the best of my current ability. I enjoy working with flash by far the most, and in this class I hope to expand on my design and structural ideas and usability issues.

I am Markus Kunz from Berlin, Germany. I am a 3rd year IT major. This summer I did my second coop and learned some stuff about javascript and dhtml. I had 320 with Steven Jacobs. I have built a personal website with my friends, which still has a lot of capability for improvement. I'm hoping to tie up a lot of loose ends to be more organized.
Hi,
My name is Brian Dagan and I'm a fourth-year IT student concentrating in Sysadmin and Special Topics. I'm into web design mostly as a hobby, but I had been approached (namely by my previous co-op employer) to create a web site (KeyTechServices.com). I'm taking this course so that I can better understand web standards, namely CSS and XHTML to improve my current skill set (which was mostly self-taught after 320). I also came to the realization that, after making KeyTech's site, that I needed to expand my capabilities so that I would be more comfortable designing web sites in the future if called upon to do so. I look forward to taking what I learn from this class and applying it both to my personal web site and any future sites I'm asked to make.
Posted by: Brian Dagan on September 7, 2004 02:59 PM | Permalink to CommentHello my name is Jason Zeiner. I am a second year IT student and I have taken this class before. I didn't do so well last time so now I'm trying it again. My link is to an archived copy of my old 409 site. I first took 320 back in Fall of 2001 and Dan Bogaard was the instructor. I'm fairly good at CSS, but never really got my pages to pass validation. It has been a long while since I've been in a class, so I have to catch up quite a bit. I am in the Army Reserves and was activated back in January 2003 and sent to Iraq in March 2003. I spent a year there and returned home on 29 March 2004. That's why I am so behind. So this will be a little challenging.
Posted by: Jason Zeiner on September 7, 2004 02:59 PM | Permalink to CommentHi, I'm Dave Watrous, a 5th year IT major doing networking and sys-admin as my concentrations (though I've also taken a couple of database courses). It's been about 3 years since I took 320, so I never had CSS in that course. I have some knowledge of it through my work though.
I've had a few web design jobs in the past, the first of which was for the NYS Office of the State Comptroller's Human Resources Dept in 1999. I spent a summer creating a page for them on the office's intranet. In 2000 I worked as a web/print designer for a small boating magazine in Albany.
I've had a few small contract jobs since then, and currently I'm working as a web consultant for the Gravure Association of America, helping them work with a site created by a local consulting company in Fairport, Vandamme Associates.
Posted by: David Watrous on September 7, 2004 03:00 PM | Permalink to CommentHello! Bonjour! Hola! Aloha! This 3rd year IT students name is Matthew Kampschmidt. I've been playing with web development for around 8 years, with my first actual webpage being published using a WebTV. That was not easy considering it had no hard drive :-) I have decided to pursue the web development concentration within the IT program because it will provide a useful skill as well as a good foundation for the HCI masters program here at RIT. I hope to learn more about web server administration, CSS development as well as better adherence to web standards.
Posted by: Matthew Kampschmidt on September 7, 2004 03:00 PM | Permalink to CommentMy name is Robert Henderson. I'm a full time Mac Administrator for the College of Imaging Arts & Sciences. I'm responsible for all Macintosh based server, lab, and faculty services in that college.
I was in your 320 class back in winter quarter of the 1998-1999 school year. So it has been a while since taking your course.
I'm currently working part time in the IT program for my degree in web design. I was looking at System Administration but it was to much since I do it all day long. I have always wanted to increase my web experience, so decided to take the web track.
My experience in web design is not extensive. I have setup a myphoto php photo album on my home server as well in the process of moving our work FileMaker database over to a MYSQL and PHP solution. I have basic web knowledge and some programming skills in PHP. I have more programming knowledge in php, shell script, and AppleScript then any other language.
My strong points would be on backend server technology. I don't really have a good design point of view but usually can handle any technical challenge sent my way.
I'm looking to gain experience in designing a web page that is useable by the public. I would also like to get my hands wet in JavaScript to increase my website's abilities for people visting.
Posted by: Robert Henderson on September 7, 2004 03:01 PM | Permalink to CommentHi,
My name is Kurt Kubitz and I was recently working as an instructional designer and Flash animator for a local company until I was layed off. My experience is with Macromedia Flash and some Actionscript. I haven't done much with html for the past 3 years. I'm hoping to use this course as a refresher for web design and development and to help me create a portfolio. I was last taking courses 3 years ago in the IT MS program. I don't remember when I took the equivalent of 320 in the MS program.
Hello everyone I'm Greg, you can call me whatever you'd like and odds are I will respond to it.
I'm currently a 2nd yr. IT/New Media student who took 320 winter quarter last year with Jefferson. I learnt html back in 9th grade due to quite a few friends starting one up while creating personal websites was the huge thing.
I stopped working on websites after that year, but I have a fairly good memory so always retained the ability to code.
Last year, IMM was the first time in a long time where I sat down to create a website. Of course, the class was extremely easy along with being "outdated" by teaching things such as tables. After finishing IMM, I continued to use my "rediscovered" coding skills for the blog I started in January. I don't code very often, but I am fairly up on CSS, since I use it to position everything, assign colors, text size, etc.
I consider myself really good at developing, but designing is something I need work on.
Posted by: Greg Waxman on September 7, 2004 03:06 PM | Permalink to CommentHi. I am a 4th year New Media Design student. I took 320 with Professor Henderson last Fall Quarter. I have done a little bit of Web design work in the past, but nothing extraordinary. I am taking this course so that I can expand on my current knowledge and create something in the future that will be functional, intuitive to the user, practical, with appealing graphics, etc.

It has been awhile since I last worked with HTML or CSS, but it dose indeed look very interesting to me. And while I am presently very weak with using HTML or CSS right now I am fairly good with flash and director as well as Photoshop.
