Personal Web Site 1 (17 September 2004)
Create a 409 directory in your www directory on grace, and in it an index.html page from which you will link all subsequent assignments. (The url to the page should be http://www.rit.edu/~yourid/409/ .) The page must include a picture of yourself and your name, and should include a link to your weblog, as well as placeholders for links to your midterm and final personal projects and your group project. It should use valid code--ideally XHTML and CSS.
Do your best to use the principles of design you learned in 320; I want to see the best you can do (that does not mean putting in every type of bell and whistle you can imagine; keep it simple and clean!)
This will be an ungraded assignment that I'll use as an assessment of your current coding and design skills, in order to assign you to an appropriate project group. You will get feedback on it, but it will not affect your final grade. (Failure to submit it at all, however, or evidence that you spent little time or effort on it, will affect your participation grade.)
Please have the site done by noon on Friday, September 17th. Post the URL for the site as a comment here.
There are no recorded trackback links from other weblogs.
Mine is here: http://www.rit.edu/~tcp1817/409/
While working on this site I realized how little I know about CSS and positioning things the way I want them, relatively. I hope I can learn a lot more about how to do this in class.

Here is mine: http://www.rit.edu/~mrk5830/409/
As soon as I figure out how, I will be rounding the corners on my boxes.

Posted by: Kurt Kubitz on September 17, 2004 10:29 AM | Permalink to CommentI thought I would give CSS tire, using it to layout my page and I have to say it didn’t turn out to bad. But I have to say I still barley understand how to use it to layout tool, and there are some problems it encounters when viewed in IE, but it works fine in Netscape and FireFox.

I got it to validate! :-)
This is my url for the website.
Posted by: David Giudice on September 17, 2004 12:13 PM | Permalink to CommentI have learned a lot of new things just playing around, although the site is still very bare. Be looking for many improvements in the future.
Posted by: Scott Skalny on September 17, 2004 12:26 PM | Permalink to CommentCrud...kept tooling around with the CSS and couldn't get it to validate right. So I pretty much dumbed it down a lot.

Posted by: Jeremy P on September 17, 2004 03:13 PM | Permalink to CommentDon't I feel dumb. Here I was thinking I was getting the assignment in 6 hours early, when it's 6 hours late. That'll teach me to just write down 12:00 in a to-do list...

Posted by: Kirby on September 17, 2004 06:07 PM | Permalink to CommentAlright, so I failed to look at the assignment until it was too late. The Prof. said it was due on Friday, but I didn't bother to look and see what time on Friday. So by the time I started it was already 5 hours too late. That'll learn me. Anyway, here's version 1.0 of the site. For some reason I couldn't get it to validate because of the unordered lists I have. Probably because I have embedded lists? I'll have to play around with it later.

I just realized I forgot to actually put the link to my site up. It doesn't do me a lot of good to have it up when no one knows where it is.
