Q: How do I apply?
A:
Online application forms are available from the Graduate Enrollment website.

Q: When is the application deadline?
A:
For admission into the Fall 2010 class, the priority review date is January 15, 2010. All applications received by that date will receive full consideration. Late applications will only be reviewed if there are additional slots available.

Q: Do I need to take the GRE exam?
A:
The general GRE exam is required for everyone (even those with master's degrees). The exam must have been taken within the last 5 years.

Q: What is full-time residency?
A:
One year of full-time residency (minimum of 12 credits per quarter for 3 consecutive quarters, not including summer, while taking courses and/or conducting research.

Q: Can I start on any quarter?
A:
On average, students would complete all degree requirements in 4-6 years, depending on their background and progress. i However, it is important to realize that a Ph.D. degree can only be awarded when and if a student has i made significant original contribution to the chosen field.

Q: Will evening courses be offered?
A:
Generally, the core Ph.D. courses are offered during the day. Some of the elective courses, however are offered in the evening.

Q: Will the program have a part-time option?
A:
Part-time option is available. However, all students must satisfy the one-year full-time residence requirement. .

Q: I already have some master's coursework. Will I be able to get transfer credit?
A:
The program allows up to 28 transfer credits on relevant graduate courses. The transfer needs to be proposed by the student and the adviser, and approved by the Ph.D. director. Such request can only be made after the student has passed the research potential assessment.

Q: Are the information sessions required?
A:
No. But if you do plan to attend, please RSVP to Joyce Hart (585-475-6193).

Q: When are courses offered?
A:
The core courses are typically offered Mondays through Thursdays.

Q: Can I take the summer off?
A:
Most students continue their dissertation research or undertake research internships in the summer, while take some time off to rejuvenate. Occasionally some students, with the consent of their advisers, take the whole summer off.

A:

All students are required to complete a teaching workshop, followed by a teaching apprenticeship as part of their degree requirements.
